Tommy Thomas, Director of Golf
Born and raised a golfer, Tommy Thomas grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania where he learned to take advantage of those rare sunny days by playing golf. Tommy has played golf competitively since the age of 10. After competing in high school and in college at the State University of New York in Binghamton, he decided to start a career in the golf business. His career began as a Bag Room Attendant at Oronoque Country Club in Stratford, Connecticut. After one summer at Oronoque C.C., Tommy moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and started his tenure at Callawassie Island Club as a Cart Attendant. Once he was promoted to an Assistant Golf Professional, he began his apprenticeship in the PGA of America’s “Golf Professionals Training Program”. He was elected Class “A” Member of the PGA of America in 2002 and promoted to Head Golf Professional at Callawassie Island Club in 2004. Tommy accepted the position of Director of Golf at Grand Harbor Golf & Yacht Club in February of 2006.
Tommy’s extensive background includes more than 14 years teaching the game. He taught “Golf for Beginners” at the Beaufort County Career Education Center for three years. In addition, he became a Hank Haney Certified Instructor in 2004 and 2005 by attending Hank Haney’s “Teaching the Teacher” seminar in Dallas, Texas. He also furthered his credentials within the PGA of America by becoming a PGA Certified Professional in Golf Instruction and Golf Operations Management. Since Tommy’s arrival at The Patriot he has hosted many significant events including Qualifiers for the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open, 2008 South Carolina Open, 2006-2011 Men’s and Women’s Big South Conference Championships, 2010-2011 eGolf Tour and the 2011 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship.
Tommy and his wife, Leslee, have been married for 11 years and they are raising three future golfers.
