Check out our Life at Grand Harbor video for a snapshot of our first quarter 2019 events! Be sure to visit the events calendar for all second quarter activities!
Spring officially arrived a few weeks ago, which means it’s time for spring cleaning, planting season, and making the most out of the extra hours of daylight! Warmer temperatures will soon be here to stay allowing more enjoyable time to be outside. If we can all survive the pollen; we are looking forward to a great spring here at Grand Harbor!
Here is an update from our department heads about happenings around the club!
Hard to believe that we are in April already. I know we are all anxiously awaiting the warmer weather. I first would like to thank the staff for their contributions to this newsletter, especially Sumner and Chasity. For those who have not been up to the office lately…Sumner Herzberg started working with our team serving as Administrative Assistant with Chasity. When you get a chance please stop up and say hello. Other team hires have included Caleb Coker hired as Assistant Professional in the golf operations, Kaitlyn Irwin promoted to Front of House Food & Beverage Manager and Shane Gosling was hired as Mechanic in Maintenance. The Club has a steady growth of Members arriving and our Club marketing initiatives are generating a lot of inquiries. We have been working hard to develop a program that includes lot / purchase program and capital improvement plan to include Cabana and Main Clubhouse renovations. This has created a lot of excitement around the club both from members and staff. More information on these initiatives will be announced as we get closer to finalizing all the plans. East Coast Golf has some exciting news as well. May 16th will mark our one year anniversary with the merger with Zealandia Holding Company. Our “Concierge Call Center” is set to start begin in the next couple of weeks. Members will be able to call 844-PLAYECG when making plans to visit the beach or any other partner club. This service will provide preferred rates for golf & accommodations as well as recommendations to some of our favorite restaurants.
Thank you again for all the support and look forward to the future success of Grand Harbor.
Mike Buccerone, PGA
President of East Coast Golf Management
Golf Update
It has been a very wet winter as we all know, but spring is finally here. We have experienced the last five days of sunshine (first five days in a row without rain since September) and the golfers have been out and about.
The staff has enjoyed having the nice weather as well and has allowed us to have several well attended golf clinics trying to help knock the winter rust off. We had a very well attended (96 players) Mike O’Shea / St. Patrick’s Day golf event followed by chef Daniel and his staff’s great Irish food.
Hopefully the rain has moved out and the tennis courts can once again be occupied. The fitness center has had some issues with the men’s steam room. A new controller system was installed and the steam room was working very well for about 2-3 weeks then the system it self quit making steam. We have received a quote to replace entire system, as you can imagine it is not a cheap fix but is on the capital improvements list.
Below are events that fast approaching.
* April 11 – 14 Women’s Big South College Conference Championship
* April 17 – 20 Men’s Big South College Conference Championship
* May 4 & 5 Team Challenge (men and women’s divisions)
* May 18 Ladies Member-Guest
Thank you,
Craig Malone, PGA
Course Update
First, I would like to thank all of you for your support in this first year of being your golf course superintendent here at The Patriot. The membership here makes it a pleasure to come to work. I would also like to thank you for the turnout that we have gotten on the adopt a hole program. This will help keep the course conditions at a premium for you, the members. Course conditions are steadily improving. This past week we were able to get off the cart paths more than we were able to in the months of December – February. As you have all noticed, we have taken out the islands in the bunkers, which is a big help in maintaining them. We also have been able to start spraying our preemergent and are spreading the rest on March 25. This winter, as you all know, was extremely wet, but I believe we came through it better than the extreme cold we had last year as far as our greens are concerned. We are also in the process of building up a new green tee box on #4. This will stop us from having to move the tee during very wet conditions. Hopefully everyone has noticed the new look of the driving range. The poles were the first step in the effort to give us a practice facility. Once again, I would like to thank all of you.
Your Greens Superintendent,
Chuck Wideman
Food & Beverage – FOH Update
The first quarter of this year sure has been a busy one! The Clubhouse has introduced Themed Nights every Tuesday, 9 & Dine started back up, and we even threw a disco party! The staff and I are thrilled to see what the busy, upcoming months have in store for us.
Kaitlyn Irwin, F&B Manager
Food & Beverage – BOH Update
As our “Busy” season approaches, I want to take a moment to thank the community for all the support that has been shown to your clubhouse and all the staff that work here. Between our theme nights, nine and dine, fish frys, steak by the ounce, prime rib night, euchre buffets, hand and foot buffets, etc…. it hasn’t felt slow for us!! As we see the winds of change blowing through the community, we ask for your continued support as we look forward to growing with you. Lastly, I would like to encourage the entire community to take a moment to introduce themselves to our kitchen staff as well….. Justin, Keke, Donald, Jared and Omar have been a blessing to me and it’s a pleasure to work with them, nothing gets done here without a great team! Thanks again, and we look forward to another great golf season!!!!
Chef Daniel Hill
